Well, friends, last week I had new story go out into the world. It’s a down and dirty ditty, but I dig it. Maybe you will too?
When we were down in the Coachella Valley in February, my wife thought it might be a good place to find some orthopaedic shoes that work for her, given there are so many old folks down in the valley. We failed in that mission, but one of the salesman made such an impression on me, I kept thinking on what could drive such a character. What’s his deal? I’m sure this story ain’t even close to what that dude’s life is like, but it was fun to imagine.
They say sometimes the best thing you can do for a dream is let it die. I’ve found that to be true.
Do I miss it? Like hell.
Big thanks to Tyler Dempsey for selecting and the crew at Rejection Letters for running this weird little story. Check out Paging Doctor Piss here, if you’re of such a mind.
Early in the summer, I got a chance to take part in an online reading series Misery Loves Company, a crossover sort of event with some of my Malarkey chums. It was a real blast reading and listening to the other authors read. Host Will Duryea is a You can find it on YouTube here. I’m on around the 45 minute mark, but I’d suggest if you got the time to listen to all the other readers. You won’t regret it (probably).
While I got your attention, I ain’t gonna let you outta here without reminding y’all that you got the chance — nay, the opportunity — to pre-order Where the Pavement Turns to Sand from Malarkey Books direct. The book will ship end of October, and heck, I bet you can ask your local library or your favourite local bookstore to stock it now, as it should be on the distributors listing sheets any day now. So don’t muck this up! Cheers.
