Howdy friends. It looked like spring was really here for a hot minute there. But here we are, back in the wet cold April weather here in Winnipeg. Oh well. Green grass is coming, buds are starting to bud. Soon, friends. Soon.
Anyhow, I had a couple little shorties published since last we spoke, so I thought I’d share them with you — or, what I can of them.
The first is a short piece called “As It Ever Was” that was part of Punk Noir’s Hell in a High Rise edition. The prompt was I needed to get going on my phone, typing away over two nights after the kids had gone to bed. I’d had the idea of some ageless or undying character type after reading The Sandman: Brief Lives and watching the latest season of Fargo. Then again, maybe the old guy could be a ghost?
The second piece is a downright crude little ditty called “Shit sandwich” that just had me thinking of all the shit a person has to deal with in their life, while tunes from the Drive-by Truckers, Sturgill Simpson, and Ween ran through my head. It’s featured in The Grift, an online zine from Malarkey Books that you can get for a cool $5. It features a stacked lineup, so I’d suggest you check it out.
While we’re talking Malarkey, I’d be remiss not to remind yall to pick up a copy of Where the Pavement Turns to Sand, either direct from the publisher, or from your friendly local bookshop. Mother’s and Father’s Days’ll be coming up quick, who doesn’t love a weird book as a gift, eh?
And look, I know that cash is tight all around these days, for most of us anyways. So if you’d like to read the book but don’t have an extra $20-and-change, why not try your local library? If they don’t have it, you can request they stock it, and that’s a sale right there. And if you take a copy out of the library, especially one outside of Winnipeg, I’d love to see a picture of it, as it would really be a thrill to have the book in stock in libraries across the country and beyond. Libraries are great, aren’t they? Hell yeah they are.
OK. That’s all for now. Hope you’re having a good time! Check ya later.
